Xbox One S Outpaces PS4 Slim Sales By 361% In UK

Microsoft is on an absolute tear with the Xbox One S. The numbers have just been extremely impressive for the slimmer, whiter Xbox. The new console is already up 989% on a week-to-week sales basis, giving Microsoft a lot of sales momentum heading into the holiday season.

According to MCV UK, the Xbox One S is not only boasting a near 1,000% sales increase in the U.K., according to sales tracking data organization GfK, but they’re also out-pacing Sony’s new PS4 Slim by 361% in week-to-week sales comparisons.

The marketing boss over the Xbox U.K., division, Harvey Eagle, mentioned to MCV UK that the momentum for the Xbox One S is still holding strong following a well-received response from gamers during this year’s E3…

“It’s great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August. 4K video streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray have been extremely well received and we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console,”

It’s not just a week-to-week struggle, though. That mindshare that Microsoft picked up during the big event in June actually carried over and translated into marketshare, where the company has managed to beat Sony two months in a row thanks to the strong uptick in sales of the Xbox One S.

Dare I say, Microsoft is making a late-game comeback like the Cleveland Cavaliers versus the Golden State Warriors.

The console wars seemed all but over for eighth gen, with Sony taking the win with the PS4 and Nintendo picking up second place in Japan while Microsoft nestled into second place in the U.S. However, under the leadership of Phil Spencer, the company dug deep into the gut of their iron will and muscled up the strength to muster a formidable offense on the sales front with deep discounts, noteworthy titles boosting sales via backwards compatibility, and great accessories like the Xbox One Elite Controller helping to nudge the green brand back into the consciousness of gamers.

Eighth gen isn’t completely over with yet. Sony has a refresh set to drop this fall in the form of the ill-received PS4 Pro, which will sport pseudo 4K capabilities, and Microsoft will drop the Xbox Scorpio next year during the fall, expecting to be the biggest, baddest console on the block. How well this will all play out remains to be seen, but one of the worst console launches in the history of the business is slowly starting to turn around to be one of the most interesting.

Now someone just needs to prod Microsoft into getting actual fun and interesting games on the Xbox console.
