Mekazoo, Neon-Themed 3D Platformer Set For Launch November 15th

Good Mood Creators announced that their 3D platformer based on retro 2D platformers called Mekazoo, will launch on November 15th. They made this announcement through a new trailer for the PS4 featuring additional gameplay and some of the cool music that makes up for the original soundtrack.

The news was made recently via the PlayStation Blog where Good Mood Creators’ Mark Naborczyk explained that the game would be releasing on November 15th. Now they don’t specifically say if this also applies to the other home consoles and PC version or if it’s just the PS4 version, but he mentions that it’s been a long time in the making and four years of a lot of hard work for the team to bring the game to life.

The post is quite lengthy, but it details how the platforming works, why there are different animals to play and what sort of abilities each one has that players can exploit to progress through the game, as well as revealing that the adventure mode will take anywhere between 10 to 15 hours to complete.

They are also rewards to acquire and secret levels to unlock, along with brand new costumes for each of the animals. And if you’re feeling like you just can’t complete the game on your own, they even have a two-player cooperative mode, just like the old Sonic The Hedgehog games. You can see how the different animals and 3D side-scrolling platform all comes together with the launch trailer below.

Each of the animals have their own unique abilities, such as the Armadillo’s swift rolls and boost charge, the frog’s ability to leap off walls and ceilings or use his mechanical tongue to latch onto objects, as well as the wallaby’s rapid stomps and super leaps into the air. There’s an animal with an ability that will likely appeal to one player or another.

Also, if you noticed that the music is especially well tailored to the neon mechanical aesthetic of Mekazoo, that’s because the soundtrack was originally put together by Nitronic Rush alum Mr Quiggles. The music is an homage to the old rocking synth tunes that helped shape a lot of the 16-bit platformers back in the day. You can scope a listen to the songs with the Soundcloud playlist of Mekazoo below.

The game looks smooth as heck. The platforming and obstacle-course designs seem to have paid off as far as gameplay fluidity and thematic pertinence is concerned. You can look to get your hands on the game as soon as November 15th rolls around.
