2K Games’ NBA 2K17 isn’t the only version of the game that was scheduled to release this year. The company announced that a second version of NBA 2K called NBA 2KVR is available for the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and for the PlayStation VR. They also have plans on launching the sports-based VR game for the Oculus Rift, too.
According to a press release picked up by Blues, the concept is to give gamers a new kind of experience with the NBA 2K franchise. Greg Thomas, the president of Visual Concepts, commented about the release of the game, stating…
“Our team consistently looks for new ways to deliver unique, fun experiences for the gamer,”. “NBA 2KVR will give fans even more access to our franchise and test new skills across entertaining VR challenges.”
So what exactly do you do in the new VR experience for the game? You play as Paul George from the Indiana Pacers. You head to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse stadium while playing through various mini-games, three-point shootouts and battle against the clock in other timer-based mini-games.
Sadly it doesn’t sound as if you’ll actually get to play straight basketball like in NBA 2K17, not that the PS4VR could handle the full game in VR, but essentially you get a series of mini-games to play through just for the heck of it.
There’s going to be an Oculus Rift version released at a later date but they don’t say exactly when. They also don’t mention a price in the press release. Hopefully it doesn’t cost the same price as NBA 2K17 because otherwise that would be pretty rotten.
Anyway, you can see what the mini-game affair looks like with the trailer below.
If it’s something you might be interested in you can look for NBA 2KVR on the PlayStation Store or the Steam store.
