Routine, 1970’s-Style Sci-Fi Horror Game Set For Release March, 2017

Lunar Software announced that the official release date for Routine, the 1970’s style sci-fi horror game that was announced quite some time ago, is finally set for March 2017.

They don’t give an exact date in March, but the window is enough to get long-time followers excited for the release. Routine was being moved around the media newswires back in 2012 when Kickstarter was hot stuff, and games would regularly have goals of $200,000, $300,000, $500,000 and $1 million and would hit them in no time flat. Routine didn’t crowd-source on Kickstarter but it did make it through the Greenlight phase and was regularly compared to games like Amnesia and later Alien: Isolation.

At the time a lot of people were excited for it because we didn’t get many slow, plodding, horror-themed sci-fi games. They’ve become a lot more common but still not as common as zombie survival games. Anyway, you can check out the new Routine trailer below, which gives you a look at the awesome lighting, atmosphere and film-filters that Lunar Software is using for the game.

In one of the previous videos we learned that a rogue robot was moving around on the ship and if it caught you it would crush you.

The aesthetics of Routine are based on retro-futuristic sci-fi, which means the technology is based on what futurists thought space-age technology would look like from back in the 1970s. It has that Alien vibe to it with the polyester, the disco-palette and the Styrofoam architecture.

They’ve managed to keep the game very much under wraps, but it looks fantastic. Since its announcement we’ve had Soma, Alien: Isolation and Stasis to occupy the sci-fi horror space, but I think there’s still room for Routine to fill out its own little niche.

You can learn more about the game by visiting the official Lunar Software website, or you can bide your time with a back catalog while you wait for March, 2017 to arrive. And now I’m kind of curious if the game will release on the Nintendo Switch?
