For Honor Closed Beta Starts January, 2017; New Heroes Announced

Ubisoft announced that the closed beta test for For Honor will get underway for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. There will be rewards given out to the winning faction at the conclusion of the beta test, and there will be three maps available along with the Vikings, Samurai and Knights.

There will be 12 different hero classes available to play, and they will be introducing two new “Heavy” heroes, the Samurai Shugoki and the Viking Warlord to the closed beta test in January. In addition to this, there is a new “Assassin” class for the Knights called the Peacekeeper. Weird that an assassin class would be called the Peacekeeper.

Anyway, the announcement was accompanied by three new trailers for the Peacekeeper, Shugoki and Warlord. You can check out the three trailers below.

The three trailers and announcement for the closed beta test are bound to get some fans excited, especially given that this was one of the only few games from Ubisoft announced that hasn’t suffered massive downgrades and is actually original.

The YouTube comment sections broke out in an argument over gender locked classes. This was something that had a lot of people on edge. Some people wanted to play male Assassins, others wanted female Warlords. I thought the age of gender-locking died with the bubble pop of Korean MMOs.

Anyway, my day-one eagerness to play For Honor has slipped into “meh, maybe I’ll get it used at some point” due to the fact that the game will have always-on DRM. Some gamers have become so complacent to these anti-consumer measure they just don’t care either way, but some of us like to be able to access our games when the internet isn’t working the way it should, or when a company goes bust and the servers are no longer accessible.

But regardless of all the sociopolitical and anti-consumer nonsense surrounding the game, you can look to get your hands on For Honor’s closed beta starting in January, 2017 next year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
