Pokemon Go Updated With Pokemon Gold & Silver Pokemon

Fans have been clamoring for more news and updates for Pokemon Go, especially in regards to Niantic Labs adding more Pokemon for them to capture from the second generation of Pokemon. Well, after waiting months on end for the news to arrive… Niantic Labs and the Pokemon Company recently announced that some second generation Pokemon have been made available in Pokemon Go.

They’ve stated in the press release that Togepi, Pchu and a few other select Pokemon from Pokemon Gold and Silver have been added to the mobile game for iOS and Android devices. The Pokemon can be hatched from eggs or captured while venturing around. You can get a brief glimpse of the new Pokemon in the teaser trailer below.

And in celebration of Christmas, Niantic Labs announced that a special edition Pikachu will be available between December 12th and December 29th.

Kei Kawai, the director of product at Niantic Labs, commented in the press release about the new update and the Christmas content, saying…

“As we race toward 2017, we can’t help but feel grateful for the support and reaction the Pokémon GO community has given us, and we’re delighted to start rolling out select Pokémon for them to hatch,”

“We’re also looking forward to celebrating the season with our community by introducing a Pikachu wearing a festive hat, providing Trainers the opportunity to get out and explore their neighborhoods with friends and family as they gather for the holidays.”

I’m surprised people are still playing Pokemon Go because it doesn’t seem like the sort of thing that should have lasted as long as it did.

Anyway, data miners had previously discovered that there were 100 other Pokemon stuffed into the game from generation 2, as reported by the Pokemon Go Informer. Expect Niantic to slowly make those 100 Pokemon available over time following this most recent update.
