Transformers: The Last Knight Trailer Hints At Unicron

I’m not really sure what’s going on in the new Transformers: The Last Knight trailer but it’s hard to get a gauge on what the movie is actually about.

The trailer sees Josh Duhamel making a return while he partners up with Mark Wahlberg to do… something. I have no idea what’s really going on, but Sir. Anthony Hopkins provides an enigmatic narration about why the Cybertronians keep coming back to Earth.

The trailer hints at another transforming planet coming to engulf Earth… could it be Unicron? It kind of looked like it. But at the same time Optimus Prime appears to be frozen in space after he went to hunt down the ones who sent Lockdown to bring him back. The trailer ends with Optimus seemingly stabbing Bumblebee in the face.

There are a lot of short clips of inexplicable action sequences, including Josh Duhamel saving Mark Wahlberg underwater, someone else saving Mark Wahlberg during a chase sequence, and Mark Wahlberg trying to save Bumblebee before Optimus stabs him in the face.

It’s a baffling trailer but it’s definitely interesting. I’m not sure what to make of it, though.

The last part of the logo for Transformers does seem to be an obvious nod to the Unicron sequence from the old 1986 cartoon. If you forgot what that was like, just check it out below.

I also like how they made Optimus thicker in this iteration after he got the Knight’s upgrade in the last film. Many commenters suspect he’s been tainted with Dark Energon, though. Based on what was showcased in the trailer it definitely points to Unicron being in the movie. If Unicron really is in the film then that would be pretty cool, but that would also mean that they might risk introducing Hotrod… and if Hotrod is around then that means Optimus Prime might die again.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough what’s going down in Transformers: The Last Knight when June, 2017 transforms and rolls out.
