Outbreak, 4-Player Co-op Shooter Launches January 17th

Dead Drop Studios announced that their four-player, cooperative zombie shooter, Outbreak, is due for release next week on January 17th.

The online co-cop shooter features voice chat support for those who want to coordinate their efforts, as well as offline single-player modes for those misanthropic gamers out there who absolutely hate multiplayer.

The game is set in a dark, deserted hospital save for the undead zombies roaming around. They have a lot of old-school, classic gameplay features, such as limited inventory space like the old Resident Evil games, giving players only one life so if they die that’s it.

There’s a collection of weapons available as well, ranging from melee weapons to various guns and plenty of equipment to loot, collect and trade with other players in order to survive the ordeal. You can see what the gameplay looks like with the trailer below.

The arsenal includes automatic weapons, pistols, axes, knives, rocket launchers, revolvers and grenade launchers. The combat is more methodical and paced as opposed to being super-fast like the Call of Duty zombie modes.

I’ve got to be honest: I don’t know how well a game like this will do in a climate where zombies are completely over-saturating the market. There are so many different zombie shooters, zombie survival and zombie action games that it’s hard to see Outbreak really standing out from the herd.

I mean, ultimately you have to say what makes this different from Nation Red? Or why would someone choose to play this over Left 4 Dead 2? Or what makes this more palatable than Project Zomboid or the myriad of other zombie titles currently on the market? If the gameplay is solid and the story is engaging enough, it might be enough to lure in gamers looking for a cheap cooperative title to play with friends.

Outbreak will launch on January 17th for $10.49, 30% off the $14.99 retail price. You can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store page.
