One of the hot topics of the week was Mass Effect: Andromeda. The upcoming game was confirmed to run at around 30 frames per second on Xbox One and PS4 at 900p and 1080p respectively. Gamers were hoping that the PS4 Pro version of the game would fare better, but it too is also limited at 30fps at 1800p. The PC version will reportedly be uncapped in frame-rates, giving the PCMR some hope that the game will be properly optimized and run decent on their rigs.
IGN also came under fire from gamers from a while back when they reviewed Assetto Corsa, giving it extremely high marks when the game suffered from some obvious technical and performance drawbacks, leading some members of the gaming community to accuse of them of having taken bribes. And anti-#GamerGate critic and journalist Matt Hickey is being sued by the Washington state Attorney General for defrauding women in his fake porn agency, which his being coupled with his multiple rape charges. These stories and more in this January 7th, 2017 edition of the Weekly Recap.
Steam 2016 Award Winners Listed
Valve held the first annual Steam Awards for 2016, but majority of the games that walked away with an award were games made half a decade ago. The full list of games highlights just how sparse 2016 was of notable games. Multiplayer DLC for Final Fantasy XV might make Luna playable, along with Cor, Iris and Aranea, three of the popular side-characters that were featured in the game. The multiplayer for Devil’s Third on the Wii U has been shutdown for good, but if you’re still playing the free-to-play Japanese version of the game on PC, you can still boot the game up and get in some game time with it. And if you’re in the mood to give your statue collection a high-quality bit of character, you’ll be able to purchase Kojima Production’s mascot statue, Ludens, for $2,000 in 2018.
Ariana Grande Joins Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
It’s not a joke, the headline is not misleading. The popular pop singer Ariana Grande has actually signed a deal with Square Enix to appear in a mobile version of Final Fantasy as a character named DW. She sports the latex bunny ears featured in her a capella version of “Dangerous Woman”. I hate to say it but the character actually matches Final Fantasy and reminds me a little bit of Fran from Final Fantasy XII. The top 100 grossing games of 2016 were listed on Steam and given the discount treatment, and most of the big sellers are completely expected. Capcom revealed that the cinematic story mode in Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite will actually center around Mega Man X, and will tie the two universes together. And speaking of Capcom, a modder has taken it upon himself to manually build an Arcade Mode from scratch for Street Fighter V.
2016 Game Sales Plummet
All the talk about diversity in gaming in 2016 hasn’t really reaped very good results when it comes to revenue. The fading of the Xbox 360 and PS3 from the market combined with piss poor games has led the overall gaming market taking a steep 13.4% dive in the U.K. Diversity just can’t make up for fun, it seem. Tomb Raider 3 will have a new writer at the helm, for better or for worse, as Rhianna Pratchett has departed from the series. Injustice 2 was given a fake release date and director Ed Boon had to take to Twitter to clear that whole fiasco up. And Asus has revealed their line-up of gaming PCs at this year’s CES 2017.
Mass Effect Andromeda Releases March 21st
As expected, the release date for Mass Effect: Andromeda was revealed during the CES 2017 keynote speech rolled out by Nvidia. The release is set for March 21st, and they also gave gamers a quick look at some of the gameplay, including the skill menus, some of the Tempest flying in space and some combat. Campo Santo revealed that Firewatch has sold over a million copies over the course of a year. All the fake news about the Russians hacking the election has turned out to be just that: fake. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has come out to admit that the source for the e-mails they exposed from the Democratic party was not from the state party and was not from the Russians. Mainstream news sources are now working overtime trying to spin the news to make it means something else, even though the whole Russian angle is as fake as the breasts on Pamela Anderson during her Baywatch run. And some classic Bandai games have joined the PlayStation Now service.
Mass Effect Andromeda Only 30fps
BioWare confirmed that Mass Effect: Andromeda is only 30 frames per second on both the PS4 and the Xbox One. What’s more is that the game is only 900p on the Xbox One and 1080p on the PS4. The PS4 Pro will be 1800p , a sub-4K resolution that will be checkered to fill out the native 4K resolution on most standard 4K televisions. The news was received with a lot of mixed results over the news. Some new DLC for Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 has surfaced, giving gamers more sexy outfits to procure and different costumes in which to roleplay the characters, and oh boy is that popcorn thong one-piece a real eye-catcher. The Nintendo Switch will be playable for the first time by the general public at PAX South at the end of January, and Sony announced that Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 has managed to move 8.7 million copies over the course of 2016… very impressive indeed.
Matt Hickey Sued by Attorney General For Fake Porn Agency
Raping women doesn’t pay. That appears to be the general gist behind the unraveling life of former tech journalist, male feminist and anti-#GamerGate critic, Matt Hickey. He’s now been sued by the attorney general of Washington State for defrauding women in his fake porn agency scam, which also netted him multiple counts of rape charges. Firaxis has announced that XCOM 2 will receive its own version of the Long War mod. IGN Italy was caught in the crossfire of controversy when accusations of bribery surfaced over Assetto Corsa. Fans of the game were peeved at the news but the frame-rate tests and other video showed that something fishy was going on.
