Genesis Alpha One, Sci-Fi Survival Game Announced For PC, PS4 And Xbox One

Team17 announced that they’ve teamed up with a German indie studio called Radiation Blue in order to produce the game Genesis Alpha One, a new Unreal Engine 4 first-person shooter with base-building elements and survival gameplay. It’s in development for PC, Xbox One and PS4. There’s no release date set but they will be further discussing the game at GDC.

Players take on the role of an interstellar pioneer, the objective is to re-establish a base for humanity after the Earth becomes ravaged by war…. and greed. A typical Soros dystopian.

The main hook for the game is that players will manage a starship as they build out crew quarters, workshops, hangers, greenhouses and resource modules in order to survive the harsh conditions of deep space. But what good is a cool, customizable spaceship if you don’t have anywhere to go? Well, this is where the randomly generated universe comes into play.

Gamers will have a massive galactic sandbox at their disposal as they venture through the vast not-so-empty space that contains salvageable wrecks, space stations, sun storms, asteroid fields, and alien planets.

The game sounds absolutely massive and it’s probably hard to wrap your head around this concept that’s supposed to be made for home consoles in addition to releasing on PC, but rest assured this is a real game and you can check out the announcement trailer below.

Given the description and the trailer, a lot of people are already calling it No Man’s Sky 2.

It reminds me a lot of the movie Silent Running. The whole modular ship design with the big domed greenhouse seems like a complete homage to Douglas Trumball’s 1972 classic.

The retro synth music and film gauze actually helped convince me that this could be a cool game if it’s done right and if the actual aesthetic mirrors that retro-futuristic theme that they had on display in the trailer.

Hopefully the game manages to release in a state that’s a lot more complete than what No Man’s Sky did back when it landed on the PS4 and PC.

We’ll have to wait for more info to emerge about this new survival title. I’ll reserve judgment and hype for when we get to see some actual, unfiltered and unedited gameplay as well as some kind of hint at what the endgame will be like.
