Styx: Shards Of Darkness Co-op Trailer Showcases Stealthy Tactics And Fun

We don’t get many games that focus on stealth and cooperative gameplay. The old Splinter Cell titles were perfect for this, but Ubisoft decided to jettison the series’ reputation by aiming to take it mainstream and ended up losing their audience in the process. Well, Focus Home interactive is picking up where Ubisoft left off… only, they’re taking the cooperative stealth mechanics to the fantasy medieval realm.

Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive recently posted up a new trailer for Styx: Shards of Darkness. The trailer focuses on the game’s cooperative stealth mechanics for up to two players. You can see it in action with video below.

The trailer shows some tandem stealth tactics between two different players in control of the little goblin. We see that you don’t always have to stay together, but it definitely works out better when you do. In some cases the players take different routes to a single destination in order to flank enemies or get around guards using shock and awe tactics.

In one really cool sequence we see Styx make a doppelganger and then lure a cave troll over to a trap door. The second player activates the trap while the first player teleports into the doppelganger.

I don’t think Styx is going to be a groundbreaking game, but it does look like they’ve focused on making a fun game. And in today’s highly politicized industry ecosystem, it’s nice to see that mid-budget studios are putting a focus on bringing gamers together and giving them a reason to be entertained and have fun without specifically making the game as a vehicle for political discussion.

Not every game has to be Metal Gear Solid or Deus Ex.

Anyway, you can look for Styx to launch on March 14th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. You can learn more by visiting the official Styx website.
