GameMaker Studio 2 Educational Package Discounted For Schools, Universities

If you’re an approved school or university and you have a game design workshop or program as part of the curriculum, you can get a budget-friendly version of the design tool and a one-year license at the low-low price of $30.

Originally GameMaker Studio 2 carries a $99.99 price tag, so essentially if you buy the education version you’re getting it for 70% off. However, you have to buy it in a minimum 10 pack for a one year license. So your tally would be around $300.

If you’re an educator at a school or have a game design program, then this is a great offer in order to take advantage of the offer.

GameMaker Studio 2 is a comprehensive design tool that allows users to create their own game using a GUI tool suite. You can design 2D platformers, role-playing games, beat-’em-up titles, puzzle games, adventure games and even point-and-click games. The powerful set of design tools was used for popular games like Dennaton Games’ Hotline Miami, Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter or Sukeban Games’ Va-11-Hall-A.

James Cox, the general manager at YoYo Games, commented about how this particular deal could really benefit educators looking to bridge learning and edutainment with game design, mentioning in the press release…

“Being a student of game design and development can be time consuming and expensive, sometimes prohibitively so, but we change all that with GameMaker Studio 2,”

“We want to give educational institutions an easy and affordable way to engage students with their passion for game development – no complications or fine text.”

GameMaker Studio 2 is very much like RPG Maker but you can make more than just RPGs with the former. There’s a tile editor, image manipulator, and tool-sets to create paths, establish workflows to systematically implement game events, and even an option to manually code in your own sequences, not unlike the powerful coding tool available in the latest RPG Maker MV.

You can create and edit levels in real-time right from within the comfort of the design tool, and once you’re finished you can compile and port your project to a wide range of different platforms, including but not limited to Windows, Mac OSX, Ubuntu, Android, Microsoft’s UWP, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

You can learn more about the new GameMaker Studio 2 educational suite, which is available for schools and educators alike, by visiting the official website.
