Mirage: Arcade Warfare Enters Free Open Beta Ahead Of May 23rd Release

Torn Banner Studios’ Mirage: Arcane Warfare has officially entered into an open-beta phase to give gamers an idea of what to expect from the first-person, mage-and-mace multiplayer game ahead of its official release on may 23rd.

The open beta will only be available for a limited time up through May 14th at the end of this upcoming weekend, so if you want to play-test the game it’s best to do so now before the official launch rolls around.

The news was accompanied by a new promotional trailer featuring gameplay from the open beta, which you can check out below.

The trailer focuses on the gore and gib of the melee combat, as well as some of the magic attacks you can unleash on opponents.

The gameplay is mirrored after Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, but seemingly a lot less hardcore than its medieval counterpart due to the reliance on magic and whatnot to compensate for the melee-focused skills and tactics.

Mirage focuses on three-on-three PvP battles with arena modes and last man standing tournament modes.

The full game will feature six maps while the open beta will only contain two.

The full game is scheduled to launch for $29.99 and is available for pre-purchase over on the Steam store page.

Mirage: Arcane Warfare never really hit it off with me. The game looks kind of boring and uninspired despite having a beautiful backdrop set within the Persian empire before it became known as Iran.

The characters aren’t terribly interesting, and it’s tough to get engrossed in the combat when the stakes are simply set as another hero-themed PvP deathmatch game.

I feel as if the hero-shooter genre needs to go away for a bit since none of the new games based on the genre have done anything new or different than what Team Fortress 2 accomplished a decade ago.
