Raise The Dead Is A Zombie Game About Herding Zombies And Finding A Cure

So many zombie games out there are all about surviving hordes of the undead as they pile in on top of you while ammo runs thin and survival becomes top priority. Well, one developer from Cape Town, South Africa wants to try something a little different in the form of Raise The Dead.

The 3D sandbox title is about gathering resources to create potions and experimenting on zombies. Why the experimentation? Well, the objective is to cure the zombies and ultimately return the dead to the living.

Developer Zaheer Flanders explains the inspiration behind the game, writing on the Steam Greenlight page

“Perform research and experiments on zombies. Craft potions. Grow various plants and upgrade your equipment. Your ultimate goal is to find a cure to the zombie outbreak.

“Raise the dead is a work of art I really want to get out there. I want to create a cute game that’s goofy and fun. I chose something that people normally see as scary, zombies, and made it cute. Making the zombies ‘almost’ harmless also makes for a fun, relaxed experience of a farming styled game.”

You can get an idea of what the 3D zombie herder looks like in action with the trailer below.

The game is still in a pretty rough state, just beyond the conceptual phase. Nevertheless, you can at least see where the developer appears to be going with the game, where you collect herds of zombies, gather up resources and then experiment on them in order to find a cure.

The concept is nice but the execution still needs a lot of work, which is why Flanders is currently running an IndieGoGo campaign and seeking $5,000 to help bring the project to life.

The full game will feature the ability to customize your lab, gather up different herbs and plants to create various types of experiments, and utilize those potions on the undead.

Some people think the concept is pretty cool, others feel it’s derivative. Some think that the game is too unpolished right now for Steam.

Ultimately it all depends on whether or not Flanders can shape the game into something fun and entertaining with the funds he’s asking for. The IndieGoGo campaign is set to run for the next two months.
