Sega Seeks To Bring New IPs And Revive Older Titles

Sega… the one who directly competed with Nintendo back in the heyday of gaming with some noteworthy hardware and titles, has now since scaled back (drastically). However, the company isn’t re-entering the console race but seeks to bring new IPs to the scene, as well as revive much older games as of 2017 and beyond for mobile devices, PC and consoles.

Seeing how Sega wants to bring its games to other platforms, which are not named specifically, but the general idea of mobile, PC and consoles means that everyone will gain access to some of the new games and old revivals. This information explaining the above comes from Road to 2020 business presentation for the fiscal year that ended on March 31st, 2017.

Referred to as segasammy.co.jp the site reflects under the “Business Strategies” section of the presentation some major points seen in both image and bulleted form via digital games and packaged games fields.

Sega 2

  • Expand existing IPs and obtain new IPs for Western PC games
  • Build revenue base by being entrusted with outsourced development
  • Challenge for new IPs
  • Revival of major IPs
  • Effective utilization of development engines
  • Create titles that will become global hits
  • Established digital marketing business
  • Expand overseas publishing business
  • Maintain profits through long-term operation of existing titles
  • Develop next-generation titles.

One of the major issues that the company wants to tackle is to create titles that will become global hits. As noted above the plans on doing said action by reviving major/old titles to captivate gamers around the world, whilst bringing new IPs to the scene, will supposedly build on momentum and revenue in the future.

These games are noted to expand development on mobile devices, PC and consoles and regions of the respective IPs’ development for a global synchronized release.

Moreover, I know a lot of the games that most people want span from 1985-2000, which was when Nintendo and Sega were going at it. Additionally, it’s funny that this MSM video report back during the holiday season of 1990 ponders whether or not Nintendo will still hold up in the race against competitors like Sega. My how the times have changed.

All jokes aside, what old games would you like to see Sega revive and what new IPs would you like to see the company churn out?
