The Defenders Trailer Reveals Sigourney Weaver As The Main Villain

It looks like “The Hand” finally has a head at the end of the snake of villainy, and it’s Sigourney Weaver. I absolutely did not see that coming. It probably would have been an even bigger shock seeing that reveal in the show itself, but they probably really needed some oomph to make the trailer work, and it certainly makes the trailer work.

The two minute promo for the upcoming season of The Defenders features some Nirvana playing in the background, and spends almost the majority of its time setting up the premise of the show and how some of them come together.

Matt Murdock, the Daredevil, ends up helping out Jessica Jones as her lawyer. Luke Cage is told by the Night Nurse to go give Ironfist a hand because apparently he sucks at handling street-level crime, and the four of them come together… I don’t know how but they do. Anyway, you can check out the trailer below.

The team-up – like any good team-up – features a fist fight between some of them. It was pretty obvious that a fight would take place, and it was good (I guess) that Cage took on the immortal Ironfist because we learn that the Ironfist can, indeed, hurt the unbreakable Luke Cage.

I also like Cage’s down-to-Earth response about finding out about the more fantastical side of Ironfist. It makes sense given that Cage’s exploits weren’t quite as over-the-top as some of the other encounters that Daredevil and Ironfist have encountered. Zombie ninjas can be a tough pill to swallow for some.

Anyway, the trailer looked serviceable.

We see that Elecktra is back, and she gives Matt a bit of a butt whooping in that hallway scene. They don’t show off a lot of action in the trailer but I imagine the hallway fight will be their centerpiece action beat equivalent to the hallway fight from the first season of Daredevil or the stairwell fight from the second season.

Anyway, you can look to binge watch The Defenders come August 18th on Netflix.
