It’s sad to say, but it’s the truth, creativity is pretty much dead these days in that we don’t have many games exploring different settings in FPS games, or other genres for that matter. At least publisher and developers M2H and Blackmill Games are trying new things. The devs behind Verdun are trying hard to explore different and authentic scenes revolving around the first World War, which includes the depiction of Tannenberg as their new project.
Before jumping into further details about Tannenberg, I’m kinda sick of all of the futuristic and World War II FPS games that are either in development or that already came out that are just copy-and-pasted FPS titles based on previously released games. The reason I say this is that there are a list of wars that explore different vehicles, locations and weapons like the Korean War, which nobody seems to want to touch. I could go on for hours how a Korean War game would be very gripping and different from other shooters, but at least we have devs like M2H and Blackmill Games who are trying something different.
Speaking of battles and wars least depicted in video games, the devs want to explore yet another scenario oftentimes overlooked, Tannenberg. Unlike Verdun, the battles will not play out exactly like the Western front and instead of presenting two different play styles in one game the devs seek to make a standalone to better represent Tannenberg.

“Tannenberg is a standalone expansion to WW1 multiplayer FPS Verdun, taking the 1914-1918 WW1 Game Series to the Eastern Front. Warfare on the border of the Russian Empire is a tense battle for survival – can your squad weather the storm of battle?”
I’m sure a lot of people are mad at EA and DICE for changing WW1 drastically through the depiction of Battlefield 1, however if you want a more authentic and almost true to soldier recordings of the first World War you might just find Tannenberg to be something of interest. Honestly, I’m looking forward to this game, because we don’t get that many depictions of World War I, and for that matter hardcore games that don’t hold your hand.
