Weekly Recap May 6th, 2017: Darksiders 3, Feminism Overload, And Palmer Luckey
Weekly Recap
(Last Updated On: May 6, 2017)

There has been so much overbearing talk and ideologically-driven discussion about identity politics and feminism in media that when Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic announced Darksiders 3, which stars the female Fury – one of the Four Horsemen from the comic book Darksiders – some people instantly reacted despondently because they immediately thought it was another attempt from Cultural Marxists to shoehorn in third-wave feminist ideals into gaming. Sad times we live in.

Oh yeah, and Liana Kerzner also wants to discuss females in gaming, but she wants to do the opposite of what Anita Sarkeesian did by opening up a two-way conversation into the topic. Some people support it and some people don’t. It will be interesting to see how that series unfolds. Also, Palmer Luckey was partially exonerated in a new report pointing out that a lot of the attacks about him supporting Trump was nothing but “fake news”. Go figure. These stories and more in this May 6th, 2017 edition of the Weekly Recap.

Palmer Luckey Smear Campaign Was Fake News

UploadVR recently did an article highlighting how the media blitz and smear campaign against Oculus founder, Palmer Luckey, was nothing but fake news. They came to that conclusion after diving in and attempting to fact check, only to find that the media had established a narrative against Luckey. Horror game, Perception, is set for release on May 30th for home consoles and PC, and the hook for the game is the fact that it uses echolocation for navigation. Capcom is hoping that Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will sell at least 2 million copies when it sells this September. CD Projekt Red is still adding artists to their stable for Cyberpunk 2077‘s development. And a new Steam curator called SJW Awareness have been making waves thanks to highlighting SJW games in the gaming industry.

Darksiders 3 Announced And Feminism Becomes Top Discussion

The well has been poisoned so much when it comes to females in gaming and female protagonists that when Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic announced Darksiders 3, there’s now a debate in comment threads and discussion boards about whether or not one of the game’s original characters, Fury, was only added to meet a diversity quota. For shame. A new crowdfunding campaign focusing on females in gaming from feminist Liana Kerzner is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter, and it’s getting some interesting feedback from participants in the gaming community. A new Star Wars: Battlefront 3 mod has surfaced, featuring everything gamers could possibly want from the title. And we have a breakdown of everything wrong with Anita Sarkeesian’s latest Tropes vs Women in Games entry.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds Coming To PS4, Xbox One?

It’s possible we could be seeing the survival game, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds on the Xbox One and PS4, as the developers are currently working on getting a beta up and running on Microsoft’s home console first. The trailer for The Defenders has gone live, and we finally get to see the four superheroes together on screen for the first time, and they’ll be facing off against Aliens icon, Sigourney Weaver. Nintendo detailed the DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the sci-fi space survival simulator that’s being compared to Mass Effect: Andromeda and No Man’s Sky called Planet Nomads has been delayed from releasing on Early Access until the end of May.

Ready Or Not Revives Hardcore Tactical Shooting

A lot of newer games have completely foregone the old-school tactical shooter elements that made many franchises from the yesteryears popular. Well, Void Interactive is working on a game called Ready or Not that offers a throwback to the kind of cooperative, team-based shooting we fell in love with during the late 1990’s iterations of Rainbow Six. New details emerge for Cyberpunk 2077, revealing that the game will feature animals and possibly some brand new rendering techniques with the Red Engine 4. A new kind of shooter called Arms of Telos will challenge gamers with a new kind of first-person experience, as the developers want to reinvent the genre. And Mario Kart 8 has managed to sell nearly half a million copies in less than a week in the U.S., alone.

Major Japanese media (games, anime, ero stuff, drama, soundtracks, novels, manga, etc, etc) torrent site NyaaTorrents suddenly decided to shut down without warning, due to some kind of EU ruling. Heard conflicting information as to which ruling it is, but it’s probably the one about prosecuting anyone who streams illegal media. Sucks.

That Macron stuff going down right now is pretty funny. It’s almost a reenactment of the whole Hillary debacle. It’s particularly amusing how the news is refusing to cover it again, even telling us not to look. Isn’t that supposed to be their job? You know something’s up when the news doesn’t want us to look at something, or is pretending real hard that it’s not happening.

Edit: I hear GitHub removed the Macron stuff. I’m sure that will stop those pesky civilians from wanting to know what it’s about! Not. Hiding it from people will make them even more curious, obviously. At this point I’m wondering if the leak is just a psyop to make people disregard future leaks, if nothing incriminating is in these leaks.

Also, I finally remembered the other thing I wanted to talk about. A friend linked me an article of the YouTube CEO talking about how interrupting women is sexist, microaggressions, and glass ceiling for women in Silicon Valley, etc. That probably explains why YouTube has been going to shit.

The friend kept emphasizing that YouTube’s CEO didn’t even make YouTube, they just bought it. It’s interesting how super rich people like to insist that anyone else can become rich and powerful (aka. the glass ceiling) and if they can’t, then well, just blame men!

People don’t seem to be able to grasp the basic concept that richness is relative/comparative. You can’t have “rich” people if everybody is rich. Someone being rich means others are gonna be poor. Can’t have it both ways. It’s not all men’s fault that 0.01% of the population are insanely rich and the rest of us aren’t.

Man, the world is so silly. What a ride.

Yep. Every time one of those a-holes get on a talk show and preach about “get a good education and work hard and you’ll succeed in life just like me” I laugh at their stupidity. A lot of them are born into money, acquire money through acquaintances or inherit their wealth. It’s rare that a wealthy business owner actually worked really hard from the ground up to become wealthy.

The current system is designed to keep money and power in the hands of the rich, too. If anyone does happen to get those things, they have plenty of ways to crush or recruit them.

It always seems to be the rich and powerful people who bitch the most about inequality and oppression, too. I keep seeing people say it’s because they feel guilty, but I don’t think they feel guilt. They’re just assholes.

        • It always seems to be the rich and powerful people who bitch the most about inequality and oppression, too.

Because the working class, the real proletariat, is too busy working hard to stop and go online to complain or make a daily vlog about their hardships. Soapboxing requires a certain level of freedom and amenities in order to take advantage of that opportunity.
