Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back Coming To PS4, Steam This Fall

Accolade and Black Forest Games have announced that Bubsy is coming back. The animal with an attitude that was never really that popular back during the 1990s is making a return to the gaming arena this fall when Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back launches for the PlayStation 4 and for Steam on PC.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is designed like the other older games on the Sega Genesis where the furry bobcat bounced around and platformed via 2D side-scrolling action. Black Forest Games is avoiding the 3D platforming era that pretty much marked the end of Bubsy games back in the day.

The announcement trailer for the game also featured some actual gameplay after reintroducing gamers to the bobcat with a bad attitude. You can check it out below.

It’s interesting because despite Black Forest Games having a decent pedigree of games under their belt, they decided to play it safe and stick with what they were used to coming off of other side-scrollers like Rogue Stormers and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.

The game doesn’t look bad, but it definitely suffers from the typical floaty physics usually associated with 3D platformers.

Given that it was an issue that was present in the Giana Sisters on home consoles and PC. Given that the new Bubsy game is due to release this fall, it’s highly unlikely that they would completely rework the game’s core platforming physics. Even still, the game doesn’t look quite as badly as you might have been expecting for a new entry in one of the less than popular characters from back during the era of counter-culture iconography.

Expect to see more from Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back during E3 and the upcoming GamesCom in August. You can attempt to learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official Accolade website.
