Cemu 1.8.1 Update Improves Ben 10, Darksiders, Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Team Cemu has released version 1.8.1 of their Wii U emulator for their Patreon backers over on the Patreon page. The updated emulator features improved compatibility for the Wii U’s internet web browser, which previously didn’t boot at all in Cemu 1.8.0, as well as a few more tweaks to the graphics compatibility and performance updates for various games.

Over on the GBA Temp forum the changelog for the Patreon version of Cemu 1.8.1 was rolled out, giving gamers and backers details on what’s offered in the latest edition of the emulator.

There are a number of fixes to the core initialization and bug squashes for the processing cycles and timing, helping to improve the overall stability of the emulator. Graphics updates were made for OpenGL drivers, including fixing an error for mip-level requests. Better compatibility for uncompiled shaders has been implemented along with CPU interpreter fixes for various instruction sets.

Of course, no one cares about stuff like that unless they understand how it affects how games actually perform. Thankfully, YouTuber Reznoire has a preview video available giving gamers a look at how Cemu 1.8.1 performs with various games following on the heels of 1.8.0.

Beyond improved browser support, there have also been fixes for the stage textures in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, as well as some bugged UV mapping that caused some of the characters in the background to not display properly.

Mario Tennis Ultra Smash now boots in 1.8.1, but it’s still pretty glitchy. The stages and performance make it difficult to play, in fact there’s some major graphics glitches that make it basically unplayable.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has added smoke, dirt and environmental fog effects, along with a few bug fixes.

Vicious Engine 2 games have improved compatibility, which affects games like Ben 10: Omniverse and Pac-Man. Both games now are stable enough to play without graphics and vertex glitches completely making the experience unplayable.

Also, Darksiders has also been improved, making the compatibility slightly more palatable for Cemu users compared to 1.8.0.

You can download Cemu 1.8.1 right now if you join the paying club of putting $5 into the coffers of Exzap and the other team members by visiting the Patreon page. Alternative, you’ll be able to download the public version of Cemu 1.8.1 for free on June 30th from the official Cemu website.
