E3 2017: Valfaris, Hardcore Heavy Metal Space Saga Coming To PS4, XB1, PC

Digital Uppercut and Steel Mantis Productions announced that Valfaris is on the way for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The 2D action-platformer is due for release next year at some point in 2018.

The game comes from the brutal minds that originally brought you Slain: Back From Hell. It’s something we’ve seen teased on the Wolfbrew Games Twitter feed from Andrew Gilmour recently, as he was popping out some concepts for this game set within a dystopian, futuristic, space wasteland. The result is apparently Valfaris. You can check out the teaser announcement trailer below.

Unfortunately the debut trailer is literally just a teaser. We only get a brief glimpse at the main character, Therion, and the dark wasteland that his home Valfaris has become after a growing evil has been infecting the citadel.

With the sun dying out and time standing against him, Therion must battle his way, life and limb, through the hordes of unkind as he makes his way into the heart of evil to win back Valfaris and restore it to its former glory.

As mentioned, there is no gameplay footage available just yet, but the team is aiming to make ready for a launch at some point in 2018. There are some E3 screenshots floating around so we do, however, get to see what the gameplay looks like from those.

The game clearly has a Doom Troopers: Mutant Chronicles vibe to it. For those of you unfamiliar with the game and book series, it’s a pretty gory affair that was quite the read back in the day. The mix of religious imagery and techno-gore definitely helps set the mood for Valfaris.

Anyway, you can look for this hand-painted 2D action side-scroller to go live on home consoles and PC next year. Keep your eyes on Andrew Gilmour’s Twitter account for new images and gifs. The man produces some legendary pixel art.

Additionally the soundtrack will be put together from Celtic Frost guitarist, Curt Victor Bryant. So I’m looking forward to that. Need more info? Keep your eye on the Steam store page.
