Jagex is at it again with the events coming together. In fact, they’re holding a competition for the best screenshot that showcases a new feature, Custom Skies. The first prize winner gets a new video card. Then, there’s a Double XP weekend which began on Friday, May 19, 2017. It’s time to train skills for the upcoming release of Menaphos, the new area opening on June 5. Prepare for more dungeons, quests, and creatures to defeat, and the chance to earn RuneScape Gold. Along with the DXPW, the Countdown to Menaphos begins. Players will get rewards each day they login until the release.
Some Tips for the Upcoming Double XP Weekend
Attend populated areas and ride on the bonuses of other player’s XP boosting items, such as pulse cores. If you’re training a resource-dependent skill like mining, avoid occupied places and competition for sources. It’s a good idea to find an isolated Arc island and go there over the weekend to train those skills without competition. Join a clan for a 3% bonus, which could double when running the clan avatar. Use a refer-a-friend scroll for the sweet 20% bonus instead of the usual 10%.
An Overview of Menaphos
It seems to be an Egypt-based area, from the announcement page calling it “The Golden City” and the tagline “Meet the Pharaoh.” The “Road to Menaphos” video series tells the developer’s plans for the area. It’s similar to a waffle divided into four with a pyramid in the middle. The four districts are (1) Merchant, (2) Workers, (3) Port, and (4) Imperial. The last zone is where you can talk with the pharaoh one-on-one to figure out the mystery surrounding him.
The RuneScape expansion is something a little different from the other expansions since there’s no over-arching quest for the area. The story of the region is told through some smaller quests to give the players freedom to explore and meet characters they won’t meet otherwise.
The Shifting Tombs is a new dungeon feature that’s different every time. As players explore the tombs, they passively receive XP for skills they set before entering. You can’t stay longer than five minutes, but the further you explore within the time, the better the loot and rewards to receive. After getting the rewards, players can go to the Merchant District and sell those items in the Grand Exchange for RS Gold.
Any training done in Menaphos will have a 5% bonus to XP. There’s also a Slayer dungeon in the area so that any Slayers will have a field day. The place even comes with a repeatable boss! Keep in mind that the Slayer level cap is raised to 120 and comes with more methods of training.
So far, that’s all the information on this upcoming expansion of RuneScape. Expect more to come as the release closes in. The Double XP Weekend is just the event to start training for the challenges in the new edition. Hopefully, you’re up to par with your training. Rock on!
