Weekly Recap June 24th: VidCon Controversy, Nintendo Localization Woes

Weekly Recap

This week was going to wrap up with relatively few moments of controversy afoot. The only really big thing that happened earlier in the week was that Nintendo announced that they would be bringing the Treehouse and European localization teams to Japan every two months in order to have them to work directly with the teams to localize games while they’re in development. This could have one of two effects: Japanese developers tell Treehouse to go suck an egg, or the Japanese developers cuck to Treehouse.

Now that would have been the biggest news bit of the week had Anita Sarkeesian not gone full Feminazi when she laid down the silver tongue of the matriarchy down on Sargon of Akkad by attempting to mobilize harassment against the popular YouTuber. That’s right, Sarkeesian went full shitlord at this year’s VidCon. These stories and more in this June 24th, 2017 edition of the Weekly Recap.

Best Of E3 2017: A Way Out

The one game that was uncompromisingly fun to watch as it was to anticipate playing was Hazelight’s A Way Out. Due to the fact that the game actually looks like fun, it was easily One Angry Gamer’s best of E3 2017. It turns out that Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel has been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 for the past three years, and they even designed a new engine called the Voyager to tackle what they have envisioned for the game. Sigourney Weaver is back to being a badass in Neil Blomkamp’s new sci-fi series, Rakka, which looks awesome and is well worth checking out. U.N’s WIPO wants to negotiate turning cultural appropriation illegal. And tens of thousands of gamers have turned against Rockstar over the whole modding thing for GTA V being shut down.

Nintendo Localizers Will Censor Games In Japan First

Before a game even gets released in Japan and localized for the West thereafter, Nintendo is starting a new trend by taking localizers from Europe and the Treehouse branch to Japan and having them work directly with the Japanese development teams to censor content. A new game called Life In Rome is on the way, and it’s an MMO survival game set during the height of Rome’s power. Seth Rollins is WWE 2K18’s cover athlete for this year’s outing of the annual wrestling title. Cuphead finally narrowed down a release date at the end of September. Halo 6 won’t be announced any time soon this year. And a bunch of people got triggered because Microsoft got criticized for blatant virtue signaling with their new Xbox Live Avatars.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Case Opening Rigging

After the whole gambling scandal surrounding Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a new case opening market has popped up with the same sort of shady underpinnings, or so that’s what a former website coder for the site is saying. One of the few Xbox One X games due for release this fall, >Super Lucky’s Tale, is actually running at native 4K and 60 frames per second. Despite the obvious Social Justice Warrior themes, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy actually seems to be a better paced game than Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4. A Certain Magical Virtual-On mech game is due out in late 2018 for the PS4 and PS Vita. Free content was made available in Friday The 13th: The Game due to the rough early launch the game had, and in the NPD charts Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Injustice 2 were the obvious predators because Arkane Software’s Prey was most definitely sales prey for the other two.

Sega Forever Revives Classics On Mobile Devices

Sega is bringing back classic titles from the 16-bit era for mobile devices as part of their Sega Forever initiative. The Xbox One X is considered by developers to be comfortably faster than the PS4 Pro, but it’s another question if it will have its hardware taken advantage of by developers. Metroid Prime 4 is expected to launch in 2018 along with Pokemon for the Nintendo Switch. Curious why there are black female Nazis in Call of Duty: WWII? Well, Sledgehammer Games has explained why they’ve made some black female Nazis. And the ScriptHookV is indefinitely delayed from being updated until the Take-Two situation with OpenIV is resolved. So no new mods for GTA V.

Anita Sarkeesian Harasses Sargon Of Akkad

Anita Sarkeesian attempted to harass Sargon of Akkad at this year’s VidCon during a panel that was supposed to be about women in the content creation space. Sarkeesian failed to get under the skin of Sargon, but the beard from Akkad retaliated by calling on his viewers to petition the VidCon organizers to get Sarkeesian removed from the panel about harassment. Nude mods, nude mods galore for Senran Kagura: Estival Versus; drink it in man! New finger-sensory motion controllers are on the way for the HTC Vive called the Knuckles. CD Projekt continues to ramp up development of Cyberpunk 2077, and Angela Merkel will be hosting this year’s GamesCom event in Cologne, Germany… let’s hope 1,200 women don’t get raped while Merkel lets more migrants into the event, eh?
