The old and classic Doom is still going strong to this very day. Modders still make stages and enhancements to the game much like a certain Jekyll_Grim_Payne. Said modder has released a new version of Beautiful Doom for the original Doom that brings the mod up to version 6.2.0.
If you happen to pop in and play Doom every once in a while there is good news for you in that a mod named Beautiful Doom has been updated to version 6.2.0., which is currently available for download over on moddb.com.
“Beautiful Doom is the grandfather of most enhancement mods, including the well-known Brutal Doom. First released back in 2008 this mod aims to improve each and every single object in Doom, making them smoother, more impressive visually and having better sounds while retaining VANILLA gameplay.”
One of the many things added to version 6.2.0 comes smoke effects, shell casings, visible debris, a better gib system, and fluent weapon animations. Additionally, the modder brought forth new blood effects to the classic game that sees said substance spraying and dripping on ceiling and walls.
The modder has also fixed up enemies and how certain demons now perform certain actions. Players will notice that the big pale naked thing known as the Arch-Vile can resurrect obliterated enemies and their matter in a much better fashion than before.
The update known as version 6.2.0 changes the BFG, too. The weapon now has an alternate fire mode that shoots a constant linear beam, opposite of the original charged sphere. Of course, visual changes can be seen in the weapon’s main fire mode with better lighting and effects, but that should come in as no surprise given the name of the mod.
