G4 Canada, the Canadian spinoff of G4TV, will officially stop broadcasting on September 1st, 2017, according to a community report over on the Shaw Broadcasting website.

The news was further corroborated by the Rogers Cable support account on Twitter, which confirmed the news to a drive-by tweet asking about the channel no longer being broadcast.

There’s an extremely detailed post-mortem on G4 over on the iMissBionix blog, which goes through a large portion of the history of the Canadian arm, along with its ties to the American version of G4.

G4 in the U.S., originally shuttered its doors three years ago when #GamerGate was still a thing, closing up shop on December 31st, 2014. This actually happened short on the heels of Revision3 games, oftentimes shortened to Rev3, having shut its doors just a month earlier on November 7th, 2014. Adam Sessler departed to start up a consulting firm, while the rest of the staff scattered about to other avenues.

The video game journalism ring hasn’t been all that stable these days. A lot of outlets have had to reconfigure how they produce content, as well as trim the fat in areas where excess expenses need to be excised.

Just recently Rolling Stone’s San Francisco outfit for Glixel had its doors shut, with the entire San Francisco team laid off.

The iMissBionix blog does note that the G4 website in Canada still seems to roll out news every once in a while, if only with sporadic dedication. The site was last updated on July 4th, 2017 according to the RSS feed, but before that the last update came on June 12th, an entire month before.

With the television broadcast being shutdown it’s tough to tell how long the website will stay in service.
