Superhot and Superhot VR will both be available for the vanilla PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation VR headset starting July 19th in Europe and July 21st in North America.
The game originally came out for PC last year, and is labeled as a challenging first-person shooter puzzle game. Players are tasked with fighting their way through a series of levels that become increasingly challenging.
The story in the game is dark and morbid as you journey further and further into it, and it gets pretty heavy by the time the credits are ready to roll. Nevertheless, if you missed out on Superhot when it first came out for PC and later re-released with the VR update, there’s a trailer below you can check out to give you a look at what to expect from the upcoming title on the PS4 and PSVR headset.
So first of all, let me explain how this game works: time only moves when you move. So if you don’t move, time does not move. In this way, you can plot out how you plan to take down enemies in each level, and strategically kill, shot, cut, slash, punch and destroy enemies while tactically utilizing every single weapon you can get your hands on.
While this sounds like it would make for easy gameplay and simple pickings from the villainous gallery of bad guys, the reality is that it’s an extremely hard game. You have to pick and choose when to dodge, when to duck, when to hit, when to strike and when to retaliate. It can be as frustrating as it is fun.
Now for PlayStation owners the highlight is that if you don’t have a VR headset you can still play the vanilla version of Superhot on your PS4. The standard version will be available for digital purchase on the PlayStation Store starting July 19th. If you happen to own a PlayStation VR, you can purchase that version from the PlayStation Store as well, which will also be available starting July 19th. What’s the difference between the two? Well, one gives you all the VR accouterments that you would expect from a fully immersive VR experience, where-as the vanilla version is the standard story-oriented version that came out for PC.
If you happen to have PlayStation Plus, you will receive an additional 20% discount on the game if you pre-order now. Otherwise it will be available for the standard MSRP.
