Assassin’s Creed: Origins Video Reveals Stiff Facial Animations

Nearly 19 minutes worth of gameplay for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Origins was put on display recently running at 4K on the Xbox One X. The video was posted up over on IGN’s YouTube channel.

The video covers a single side-mission in the open-world game, with voice-over commentary provided by game director Ashraf Ismail. You can check it out below.

Before getting into the gameplay, I noticed that there were no abundance “We Wuz Kangz” memes in the comment section. Usually on all the Assassin’s Creed: Origins videos those memes top the comment section from top to bottom. IGN may have been using YouTube’s shadowbanning feature to filter out the memes because I was only able to spot one comment from one user, while another user commented that the memesters were incoming.

There is no proof that all the “We Wuz Kangz” comments were shadowbanned, but it seems awfully odd that they were prevalent on every single Assassin’s Creed: Origins video and now they’ve just magically disappeared.

As for the gameplay, it takes place at the Giza plateau and the video is set halfway in between the game.

The side-mission isn’t the best showcase of the game, with poor lip-synching and poor animations highlighting the game.

One of the things they’ve mentioned that was a real problem in previous games is that missions no longer fail by leaving the mission area or by getting dedicated.

So now you can have multiple tasks on hand and not worry about failing the mission.

They reveal that you can also pull out torches at any time and use them as weapons.

They also reveal that you can telegraph attacks with the amount of damage you’ll do before you attack by giving you a heads-up display alert about whether or not your attacks will be an instant kill move.

They also reveal that as you raid tombs and complete tomb raiding puzzles, you’ll be able to unlock additional skill points, and loot.

The video also showcases the awful new combat system that relies on hit-boxes instead of the puppeteer controls from previous Assassin’s Creed games. The combat is a lot messier and far less cinematic than previous games, mostly due to the magic slide-parry feature that the lead character has, and the clunky and inaccurate hit detection.

The combat is basically a poor man’s Dark Souls.

The least they could have done was mirror the combat after the more visually entertaining fighting mechanics of Dragon’s Dogma.

As you can see, the combat animations don’t always sync up and it truly takes away from the gameplay and immersion seeing such a low quality of animation interactions.

It’s a huge step back from the combat featured in Assassin’s Creed III. Check out the video from Sp33dy Ninja, which features Connor kicking butt and taking names with his bare hands.

That’s from five years ago.

With the upcoming title… Ubisoft should be ashamed.

Anyway,. a lot of the travel in the video for Assassin’s Creed: Origins is conducted via camels. There are also horses and boats in the game as well.

The upcoming title is due for release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
