Americans won’t be able to increase the size of their dong or tea-bag opponents with a physics-based sausage spinner in Conan: Exiles when it launches for Xbox One on August 16th.
The news came courtesy of a live-stream from Funcom, where they were peppered with questions from the console gaming community about the nudity in Conan: Exiles, and whether it would make the leap from the PC version to the console version. Unfortunately, Americans won’t be able to experience big boobs and wobbly dongs… but Europeans will be able to experience them until their heart’s content. Censored Gaming captured the short two-minute clip where the differences between the two regional versions are explained.
For the hearing impaired, Funcom’s community manager for Conan: Exiles, Jens Erik, explained in the live-stream…
“There will be full nudity on the Xbox version in Europe, and there will be partial nudity on the Xbox version in the U.S.
“And the reason for this is – if we included full nudity in Conan: Exiles, this would have resulted in a more restrictive ESRB rating in North America, which then might have prevented a broad release of the game.”
So basically, the issue arose from the ESRB. According to Erik, the game had no issues securing an 18+ PEGI rating in Europe – even with the game including full nudity for both males and females – but they couldn’t secure an ‘M’ for Mature rating from the ESRB for full nudity. Instead, Funcom had to settle for partial nudity in Conan: Exiles for the Xbox One, and even that still netted them an ‘M’ for Mature rating.
If you’re not happy about the North American Xbox One version being restricted in what sort of content it can show, you can always stick with the PC version of the game, or play the European version of the game.
Conan: Exiles is due for release on the Xbox One in the Game Preview program starting August 16th for $34.99. Funcom plans on continuing to update and iterate the game during the Early Access phase leading up to a full release during the first quarter of 2018.
