Q.U.B.E. 2 Launching In Early 2018 For PC, PS4, Xbox One

Toxic Games announced that Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming for home consoles and PC in early 2018. The sequel to the first-person puzzle indie title that released back in 2011 will take a slightly different turn with the way the game is played.

According to the press release, Q.U.B.E. 2 will focus more on the story of a British archeologist named Amelia Cross, who ends stuck on a mysterious alien planet along with another survivor named Emma. The duo attempt to make it through the complex series of puzzles constructed within the Q.U.B.E.

Even though the game is about a year off from release, there is a short teaser trailer you can check out below to give you an idea of what to expect from the game.

The trailer was met with a bit of a mixed reaction from gamers; some people only wanted a puzzle game without the story; some people loved the story; others felt it was still just a poor woman’s Portal. For now, we have no idea what the actual gameplay will be like, but we did get a brief hint about it in the press release.

According to Dan Da Rocha, the managing director of Toxic Games, even though the game will focus more on the story mode, they also wanted to created more ways to give players a choice in how to solve the puzzles, saying…

“With Q.U.B.E 2 we want to give the player more story but we also want to give them more choice,” “We’ve developed the tools players can use to solve puzzles, subverting the linearity of the original in favour of something more open, something that allows players to put their own stamp on solutions.”

It’s true that the original Q.U.B.E. didn’t offer much in the way of emergent puzzle solving or completing levels in different ways, which was one of the biggest separators between Q.U.B.E. and Portal.

You’ll get your first look at Q.U.B.E. 2 at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany where Toxic Games will have it on display between August 22nd and August 24th. You can keep track of the development by visiting the official website.
