Rugby 18’s My Squad Mode Requires Actual Gameplay Skills To Progress

BigBen Interactive and Eko Software rolled out some new details onto the pitch for Rugby 18, the annual, hard-hitting, hardcore, sports game due for release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this October.

The near two-minute trailer focuses on the revamped career mode, along with the new My Squad Modes. You can check out the video below.

The video details how in the career mode players take on the role of a general manager; recruiting players, working with trainers, and dealing with the constraints of a limited budget.

Like most managerial career modes, the focus is on taking your team to the top by making sure the right players are in the right positions, and beating the other teams in order to move up the ranks. Usually it’s best to actually play the matches instead o simulate them early on in the career, but you will have the option to play or simulate every match in career mode.

As is usual with most sports games, you’ll earn more money as you win matches, and you can then recruit more players and upgrade your team so that you can move up in the division rankings.

The second half of the video covers the My Squad mode, which allows you to create and customize your very own team in Rugby 18.

The My Squad mode is very similar to EA’s My Ultimate Team modes in their FIFA or Madden NFL games. Except here, you don’t need to rely on microtransactions and cash shop packs to earn points. Instead, you do this ancient and rare thing called “playing the game” to earn squad points that you can use to build up your ultimate team. Squad points are earned in every game mode, from single matches to career mode; and from online matches to tournament modes.

You can also earn additional points during the actual match by using your skills. Yes, you actually earn bonus points by playing well. Yes, the game rewards you for having actual gameplay skills. I know, shocking.

Now if you want to see what the actual gameplay looks like, you can check out a video below from TheScottishCannon.

You can look for Rugby 18 to launch in October for Xbox One, PS4 and on Steam for PC.
