Songbringer, Trippy Sci-Fi Action RPG Arrives On PS4 September 5th

The science fiction, action-RPG from one-man studio Wizard Fu is set to arrive on the PlayStation 4 next month starting September 5th.

Double Eleven community rep Natalie Wicks took to the PlayStation Blog to drop some spit bombs in the news wire buffet, informing gamers that this trippy new isometric RPG could one of those hypnotic sleeper hits you’ve been waiting for all year long.

Songbringer centers around a intergalactic surveyor named Roq who ends up on a planet where he’s left shirtless, all his stuff is gone, his hover bike is broke, and all he has left is the companionship of his trusty robot sidekick. It’s up to players to journey through the multiple layers of the planet, loot some wicked gear that would make Vault Hunters jealous, flex muscles that would make Lou Ferrigno from 1975 blush, and kick more collective butt than a Chuck Norris movie marathon.

You can check out the gameplay trailer below to get an idea of what the game is like.

It’s like if Masters of the Universe got corrective pixel surgery to imitate the love child of Superbrothers’ Sword & Sworcery and Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter.

The pixelated look works well enough for what the game is trying to do, going for that retro, hipster look. If you’re not a fan of that retro, hipster look then you’re probably just not going to like the game.

Some of the combat looks pretty good, but it’s hard to get grasp on whether or not it will be challenging or just a standard-fare hack and slash experience. You will have a boomerang hat at your disposal, so those of you who know how to whip out your Kung Lao skills will find some entertainment in that, no doubt.

Additionally, the robot sidekick that will accompany Roq can be picked up and played by other players via local co-op, so you don’t have to worry about your significant other sitting there bored out of their mind watching you beat the living crap out of anyone unlikely enough to find your sword thrusting into their mouth.

You can look for Songbringer to launch on September 5th for the PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Store.
