Sonic Mania Cheat Guide: Here’s How To Access The Debug Mode

Can’t quite cut it though Sega’s Sonic Mania?

A new Debug Mode has been discovered that you can get Sonic Mania to cheat to the top spot, and in this guide, you’ll learn how to access this feature in the new platform game. Sonic Mania is out now for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

If you want to practice bonus stages, catching UFOs, learning stages, and other essential aspects of Sonic Mania, there’s a new debug cheat that has been discovered (featured in older Sonic titles) allowing you to access almost anything in-game.

To access this Debug Mode you must obtain a few Silver Medallions in bonus stages through checkpoint posts, and completing a bonus stage level by collecting all blue spheres — which perfect can be achieved through collecting each and every ring.

After collecting a few Silver Medallions a new secret mode will appear on the “No Save” file (far right), which upon pressing the once “delete” button that now is a “secret” button will reveal the following toggle options: Debug Mode, Sonic Ability, & Knuckles.

Once starting a game with the Debug Mode toggled on it will prompt the Triangle button on PS4, Y button on Xbox One, or the top button on whatever console you may be on, to utilize the Debug Mode’s functions.

Below is a video guide by YouTuber FuzzFingerGaming showing how to do different things in the Debug Mode.

The next video by the same YouTuber reveals how to select levels and perform other actions in said mode.

If all of that seems like too much, an alternate way to access the Debug Mode, although unstable at the moment, you can hold B and Y on Switch, A and X on Xbox One or X and Square on PS4, and when the title screen shows up and says press “start” simply press start while holding down the aforesaid buttons. This action should activate the Debug Mode.

If all of the above fails to work your next best bet is to collect as many Gold Medallions through various bonus stages.

Sonic Mania is out now for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. The PC version of Sonic Mania is slated to drop on August 29th.
