1047 Games is working on a new Unreal Engine 4-powered first-person shooter called Wormhole Wars. The new game is obviously a first-person shooter, because what else would it be? The new sci-fi title supports up to 12 players duking it out on maps where they can utilize wormhole portals to manipulate the match.

Wormhole Wars is one of those that probably slipped under the radar due to GamesCom happening, but 1047 Games didn’t want their game to slip so far under the radar that it was like a rat gnawing for attention under a white Sunday dress, so they released a minute long teaser trailer to help get your blood pumping, and the girls in Sunday dresses squealing.

The game is like a mix of Lawbreakers and Portal.

You can see how the wormholes can be used both for and against players. In one scene we see how a player uses a wormhole to open a portal to an area located above another player, giving them a clean shot at their head. In another scenario we see that the portal can be used to open up a spot that pulls another player through a portal to a different area of the map, where they’re quickly killed off.

It’s both a risk and reward style of gameplay that could be interesting in practice. 12 different players all vying to control the map through the portal grids could also make for some really intense and wild matches.

The game itself definitely seems like something out of 1999, though. It’s an old-school style arena shooter, but I’m not entirely sure how well this will work out given that we have so many different arena shooters on the market already. If it’s not Unreal Tournament it’s Quake Champions. And if it’s not Quake Champions you still have Overwatch.
