X-Morph: Defense Video Features Awesome Physics-Based Gameplay

Exor Studios released a new 16 minute gameplay video for their upcoming title due for release on the Xbox One, PS4 and on Steam for PC starting August 30th. The game will be available for only $19.99.

X-Morph: Defense is a hybrid game, mixing genres between the twin-stick shooter and tower defense strategy. The game features high levels of destructible environments, and “never before seen” levels of freedom when it comes to constructing levels in a tower defense game.

You can check out the 16 minute video below, covering a lot of the game’s content and gameplay mechanics.

The video starts by selecting a mission in Mexico, and then very briefly gives gamers a look at the skill tree before transitioning into the actual mission.

The opening sequence shows the core alien X-Morph base dropping into a Mexican refinery, mining for ore to build a secret weapon.

The setup phase of the game is just as exciting as the actual combat phase. Unlike a bunch of other games you can actually use physics as a legitimate tactical strategy to both create blockades and reroute enemy convoys.

The physics in X-Morph are absolutely on point. It’s a shame we don’t have more games like this because this is an actual, bona fide evolution of the tower defense genre.

During the construction phase you’ll setup turrets and attempt to setup counter artillery to thwart the incoming enemy forces.

As showcased in the video above, you’ll be able to see where the enemy units will travel with the arrows situated on the ground.

X-Morph - Unit Selection

You can attempt to waylay advances or change the function of the turrets using a quick-access GUI menu.

During the combat phase the aerial ship you use to lay down units and plot out your defensive measures also doubles as an aerial force of destructive nature.

You can upgrade the ship, fire on incoming convoys and units, and unleash a barrage of devastating fire power against human units attempting to destroy your alien war base.

The physics-based combat and construction really makes for some cool visual spectacles. It’s not only a cool way to play a tower defense game but a nice level-up on the twin-stick shooter genre, too.

You can look for X-Morph to launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC starting August 30th.
