Ark Survival Evolved Guide: Here’s How To Tame The Phoenix

Studio Wildcard’s Ark: Survival Evolved is out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and currently holds a new species named the Phoenix. If you happen to be new or looking to tame and capture the creature, hopefully this guide will be of use.

For starters, any Phoenix creature in Ark: Survival Evolved poses little danger to its surrounding area, and that includes you. However, the real danger lies during a heat wave effect found in Scorched Earth (expansion), which the temperature and various animals inhabiting the area stand to be more hostile than the Phoenix itself.

You can find a Phoenix in random locations high up in the sky during a heat wave, despite being very rare to come across. It should be noted that the creature must be struck with flaming weapons in order to tame it, which includes flamethrowers, flaming arrows, and fire Wyvern breath. Additionally, when the Phoenix is struck by one of the named fire projectiles, the taming bar will appear but will increase in small increments.

Once a heat wave ends so will your chance at taming or capturing a Phoenix. In other words, you must capture it before the heat wave ends or you will be left with a pile of ash when it disintegrates. The good news is that it reappears where it last left off (hence its ashes) when the next heat wave starts, prompting the opportunity to cage it in with a tall box structure — at least five walls high and capped with a single entryway.

Upon taming a Phoenix successfully, you will find that it will only eat sulfur. If you don’t have any sulfur you can find some by mining-yellow-streaked rocks found high in the mountainous regions in the Scorched Earth expansion. It’s worth noting that a pick-axe must be used to mine said material, otherwise you will yield only stone if a hatchet is used.
