Bungie Removing Kekistan Imagery From Destiny 2, Calls It Hate Symbol

Gauntlets in Destiny 2 known as Road Complex AA1 are being removed from the game because Bungie claims it shares elements similar to a “hate symbol”, specifically the Kekistan flag, a fictional piece of mimetic iconography spawned from the media hysteria surrounding Pepe the Frog.

Bungie sent out the tweet early on the morning of September 12th, 2017, stating the following…

Many of the followers of the Bungie account praised the developer for removing the imagery from the game.

Others were confused as to what imagery Bungie was even talking about, so some gamers had to post up images of the green, black and white-themed gauntlets that almost look like they have “KEK” on the side of the bicep sleeve leading up the side of the shoulder. Others linked to an image of the Kekistan flag to show the comparison.

So how did Kekistan get associated with being a hate group? Well, as mentioned further down in the Twitter thread, some of those who joined up at the rallies to fight against Antifa were labeled by the media as members of the “Alt-Right”. According to the media, the Alt-Right is a hate group, and therefore anyone the media associates with the Alt-Right is practicing hate by proxy.

As is usual with threads like this, many gamers are disappointed that Bungie decided to bend to the will of Social Justice Warriors who claim that Kekistan and the fictional religion of “Kek” have been classified as a hate group.

Deaf ears did the the pleas of reason fall upon, as Bungie had little intention of minding the arguments of free-thought infidels.

I do wonder if the continued motion to embrace censorship in gaming based on sociopolitical leanings will also continue to have an effect on the sales of AAA titles? Bungie’s sequel to Destiny already launched in the U.K., at a 58% sales drop compared to the original game’s launch back in 2014, so it’s not like they can afford to keep pushing gamers away.
