CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 Job Listings Highlight Loot And Deep RPG Mechanics

In a new batch of job listings for Cyberpunk 2077, features like loot will be in the game. However it seems that developers of CD Projekt Red have a strong focus on deep RPG mechanics that might offer macro and micro context to Cyberpunk 2077′s gameplay.

When the word “loot” appears either two things come to mind: Microtransaction loot boxes or items found around a game’s world. There’s no telling if microtransactions will show up in Cyberpunk 2077, but what is for certain is that there will be some form of loot, accompanied by deep RPG mechanics.

The information as described above comes in courtesy of three job listings that CD Projekt Red published on its Twitter account. The three happen to be a Gameplay Designer, Senior Gameplay Designer, and Senior Gameplay Designer (RPG).

The links to each job listing page can be found here:

Highlighting the most interesting requirements and tasks that are found on each of the three job listings sit below.

Gameplay Designer

  • Working closely with our gameplay programmers on prototyping and implementing stages and ensure that the gameplay functionality, the combat systems, as well as the overall gameplay experience are carried through to completion in the highest possible quality.

Senior Gameplay Designer

  • Work with level, quest and sandbox designers to ensure AI and gameplay systems are utilized correctly.

Senior Gameplay Designer (RPG)

  • Create mathematical solutions for complex RPG systems (economy, progression, loot etc.) to ensure a well-balanced RPG experience. Design, prototype and work with other disciplines to create compelling gameplay loops at both a macro and micro level.
  • Work with level, quest and sandbox designers to ensure RPG systems are utilized correctly.
  • Throughout production, balance RPG Game Systems.

The main goal here is to make sure that levels, quests, RPG elements and combat systems work properly or manifest with balance.

The last thing that I want to touch on is progression: In some games progression can be a bit lazy in that they call for actions like “get to this level to and gain this skill,” or “find and talk to this person acquire this skill.” Seeing that there is a constant reiteration throughout this batch of job listings about progression, as well as prior ones too, it could mean that we might see more attention to progression and RPG mechanics both on a macro and micro scale.

But who knows how Cyberpunk 2077 will turn out, the only way to know is to wait for 2018 to roll around, which according to the devs should bring more info on the cyberpunk-themed game.
