Destiny 2 GameStop Flyer Points To Microtransactions

A recent GameStop flyer popped up that has indicated that Destiny 2 will be bringing back paid silver currency, which will enable gamers to purchase in-game currency using real life money.

The flyer was posted up by the Destiny 2 Intel Twitter account, which is run by the Charlie Intel group. You can check out the tweet below.

This was also further elaborated on by MP1st, who detailed that there are Destiny 2 silver packs available in 1,000 and 2,000 units for $9.99 and $19.99 respectively.

They also point out that there is another currency called “Bright Dust”, which is an “Eververse-specific currency”, meaning that you can only use Bright Dust to purchase certain items. It can also be obtained by dismantling items that are acquired through Bright engrams.

I suppose “Bright” is the replacement (or upgrade) over “Light”?

It was pretty evident that microtransactions were going to be part of the package because that’s become the thing to do nowadays for AAA titles. Shadow of War has both microtransactions and loot boxes – the latter of which is used as an addictive measure to hook gamers into a gambling cycle – and single-player games like Assassin’s Creed Origins will also have microtransactions.

Publishers have been constantly trying to find ways to pilfer more than just $60 out of gamers, and at first it was just standard small pieces of DLC, cosmetic skins, and maybe some emotes or taunts. But now things have escalated to include gambling-themed loot boxes, chests or item crates. It looks like Bungie saw how well this worked for games like Overwatch or Team Fortress 2 and decided to get in on the action.

You can look for Destiny 2 to launch on September 6th for the Xbox One and PS4. The PC version will be a step behind, launching at the end of October.
