Red Dead Redemption 2 Reveals Wildlife, Dual-Wielding, And Train Robbery

Rockstar Games dropped the newest trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, featuring a look at more of the environments, some of the characters, and a few more of the gameplay features that they’ve been keeping oh-so-close to their chest.

The trailer focuses on a fellow named Morgan. He’s the leader of a gang of outlaws and uncouth types who seem to also take bounties or work as bagmen, collecting from those who just couldn’t muster the intestinal fortitude to the cut the custard and pay their due. Morgan is the center focus of the story, riding around on his horse, strong-arming fellows with brute words and the appearance of physical violence.

As evident from the previous trailer, the train will play a big role in Morgan and his crew’s nefarious machinations. Train robbery and robbery in general seems to be the modus operandi for the out-west outlaws.

We still don’t get to see much gameplay, but we do see that dual-wielding is possible, a variety of pistol types are obviously in the game, and melee seems to be a bit of a focus this time around.

We see Morgan strong-arming people, so I would assume that some feature will exist that allows gamers to adequately grapple and move others around. It would be awesome if it was similar to Rockstar’s melee combat in The Warriors or the grab function from one of EA’s better games, The Godfather (but only the first one, not that abomination that was the sequel).

Anyway, the game looks okay, but I can’t help but notice that visually the art-style almost looks identical to The Last of Us. Usually Rockstar’s games have their own distinct flair, but this time there’s a lot of similarities with Naughty Dog’s titles.

The environments and effects look really good, though. If it weren’t for the character designs I would be hard pressed not to think that those could be life-life paintings of a peaceful man’s interpretation of still-life.

We also see that there will be wildlife roaming about. There’s a bit of a Far Cry vibe to the wilderness. Hopefully it’s not as stilted and robotic as Far Cry’s ecosystem, though.

Anyway, the game is due for release in spring of 2018 for the Xbox One and PS4.
