My Name Is Addiction, Visual Novel Tackling Porn Addiction Arrives On Steam
My Name is Addiction

After three years of development and an up-and-down roller coaster of community feedback, Cleril Calamity Studios finally released the autobiographical visual novel, My Name Is Addiction, onto the Steam store for only $0.99.

There is no first week release discount on the game, but there is a 27% off discount on the two-game bundle containing Cleril Calamity’s other game Haven. You can get both games for $5.98, but during the first week discount you can pick up the games for $4.38.

My Name is Addiction is about a porn addict who can’t hold a steady relationship and ends up having to choose between potentially pursuing love or sticking with porn. It’s literally like the daily struggles of the Otaku who have to choose between 2D and 3D. In Japan most have already resolved that 2D trumps 3D.

In this case, My Name is Addiction sends on an uncompromising hour-long ride where your choices will determine one of the seven endings present in the game.

A couple of years ago I interviewed Cleril about the project and some of the motivations behind the title. In addition to that, Cleril was also one of the few developers who spoke out about how game journalists were the gatekeepers of media exposure and that games like My Name is Addiction had their exposure held hostage by the agendas of the established media.

There was a pretty big debate about how much control and influence game media outlets have on the industry, but the reality is that those making small indie games who rely on getting the word out about their projects have to settle for jumping the rope of the media establishment in order to get any kind of coverage. Some developers resolve to focusing on making SJW-themed content, which allows them to get easy coverage from “progressive” media. Others have to simply hope that positive word of mouth does its job and lures in a sizable enough audience to make the project financially successful.

Obviously My Name is Addiction isn’t a visual novel for everyone, but if you were curious about a story that delves into porn addiction, you can check it out over on the Steam store.
