Overgrowth, Physics-Based Fighting Game Graduates From Early Access On October 16th

Wolfire Games’ Overgrowth is finally ready to launch in full. The acrobatic, procedurally physics-based fighting game starring a kung-fu rabbit, will officially graduate from Early Access starting next week on October 16th.

Humble Bundle announced that they will have a launch sale for Overgrowth starting on the day it goes live. The sale will stay active for the entire first week of the game’s availability. It will also be available on Steam.

For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it utilizes physics-based combat as mentioned in the opening paragraph. Dynamic constraints and real-time muscle and bone-based calculations happening at 120 updates per second allows for natural looking ragdoll effects. Additionally, players can throw, hit, kick, counter, jump, flip, roll and dodge out of the way using a variety of skills and attacks, which allows for a lot of natural, skill-based fights to take place, as briefly showcased in the trailer below.

Not only that but the press release highlights the fact that the game utilizes PC-exclusive graphics rendering techniques not present in many other AAA games, such as real-time render-based swirling fog effects, physics-based dripping blood effects, and real-time simulated flame streaks.

The game’s full story mode is also finished and done, with players finally being able to play through the story from start to finish. The story mode was actually implemented in the B6 version of Overgrowth, which just recently went live last week on October 3rd. David Rosen did a quick two minute video highlighting some of the changes in the beta before the 1.0 release.

The latest beta update came with a few glitches and bugs that Wolfire had to stomp out with a hot fix that went live just yesterday on October 10th.

The full thing should be clean and pristine by the time October 16th gets here and the full version is ready to release on PC.

Additionally, if you don’t like how the game plays there are also mods available to help turn it into something more akin to your liking.

If you purchase Overgrowth you’ll also receive a free copy of Wolfire’s Receiver. You can learn more by visiting the Steam store page or by visiting the official website.
