Rivals Of Aether, Smash Bros-Style Fighting Game Adding Clairen, Ranno On October 17th

Two new characters are set to arrive in Dan Fornace’s Rivals of Aether fighting game. The title features an ever-growing roster of characters as Fornace continues to develop and evolve the game’s world. The two latest characters set to arrive are Clairen and Ranno.

Recently the character of Clairen received an impressive background story trailer showcasing how she ended up engaging in fisticuffs and some of her abilities in the game. Right off the bat it looks like Clairen was very heavily inspired by Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter. You can check out the trailer below.

That’s some Smash Bros. levels of footsies right there.

The gameplay looks a lot better than what I was originally expecting for the character. Her combos look like a mix between classic Capcom air-juggling and a little bit of the Mega Man X-style dashing.

Technically, this trailer could easily lead a lot of people into thinking that this was a traditional side-scrolling platformer. In reality this is actually a platform-based fighting game.

Much like Super Smash Bros., the objective is to beat the crap out of your opponent to win the round. You can use the environment to your advantage, as well as unleash various types of combos, special moves and techniques on your opponents.

Now if you’re not too keen on the arena-style setup, there’s still a single-player mode where you can play through the stories and discover more about each of the characters, as well as a survival challenge mode so you can test your skill against waves of baddies.

For those of you more-so concerned with proving your talent and fighting prowess, you can head online and duke it out against others in the online multiplayer battle modes.

Rivals of Aether is currently available right now for only $14.99. You can learn more or pick up a copy by heading to the Steam store page or wait for the two new characters to drop starting October 17th.
