Star Wars Ultimate Commander Mod Attempts To Overhaul Battlefront 2

Fed up with the current state of the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 series? With the latest uproar surrounding the game’s loot box and microtransaction scandal, it has led a lot of people to look elsewhere for their Star Wars fix. If you can’t find a good large-scale Star Wars game, a mod named Star Wars Ultimate Commander attempts to overhaul the original 2005 Star Wars Battlefront 2 from Pandemic.

Franchises are being consumed by the ever expanding virus called microtransactions. At one point they were tied to free-to-play multiplayer games and now they have seeped into single player titles, with the recent inclusion of microtransactions having spread to common and basic features across larger titles.

In addition to the above, we see the same thing happening to EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, which has led some people to look for an alternative. One alternative that is in the works comes in by four modders looking to overhaul the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) game.

The four modders happen to be CdtFox, Allumette, CT-108, and Ractor2A. The mod goes by the name of Star Wars Ultimate Commander and seeks to upgrade visual effects, sound effects, modes, characters, and much more. The new features and improvements can be seen right here:

  • Three new eras: The Clone Wars, Imperial Civil War, and The Old Republic
  • 150+ new playable units
  • Greatly improved AI
  • New difficulty
  • Custom visual effects and Sound effects
  • Support for shipped game modes such as “Conquest” or “Capture the flag”
  • Five new game modes
  • Support for every SWBF I (2004) maps
  • Improved HUD
  • New Shell

The mod will bring a lot of older Star Wars content and not so much from the newer versions like from Episode 7. If you want to see the mod in action, which stands to be an early build, you can watch a video testing visual effects of the X and Y-Wing’s torpedoes and engines.

The mod has no release date of as of now, meaning that it could take awhile before it hits PC. However, a playable build will more than likely come out in the near future for folks to test much like other OG Star Wars Battlefront 2 mods.

If you want to see more videos, images or even keep up with progress on this mod, you can head on over to moddb.com.
