VVVVVV Heads To Nintendo Switch November 17th For $9.99

Nicalis sent out word that VVVVVV is coming to the Nintendo Switch next month starting on November 17th for $9.99 on the Nintendo eShop. The news was accompanied by a release date trailer and some brief details about the game, which most people should know by now… assuming you’ve been living under a rock or you just didn’t care about the game because it looks like someone fell asleep at the keyboard and mistakenly held down the ‘v’ button before waking up and finding out that there are a bunch of Vs on the screen as if you’ve got a fetish for the rarely used alphabet.

Anyway, the game features gravity-defying levels where players must use timely ground-to-ceiling swaps (or vice versa) to overcome obstacles, dodge spikes, jump over pits, and essentially get to the end of the level without dying. A traditional jump isn’t present, so players have to strategically make their way through each of the levels using their wits and timing.

You can see what the gameplay is like with the off-center trailer below.

One of the things that the trailer reveals is that Switch owners will also be able to take a buddy along for the ride with a two-player cooperative mode.

I don’t see how it would make it necessarily more fun, but I’m sure it will be a heck of a lot more challenging.

As noted by Nicalis president Tyrone Rodriguez, the game is a throwback to classic Commodore 64 titles, but designed to take advantage of today’s technology. Rodriguez mentions in the press release…

“VVVVVV was designed by Terry Cavanagh as an homage to the 8-bit Commodore 64 computer games that he played while he was growing up,” […] “But you don’t need to have had those experiences to enjoy every last bit of it. It’s one of those rare games that are immediately accessible and simple.”

The game has been designed to run at 60fps on the Switch, which should be the standard given that the game looks like an 8-bit platformer that escaped 1986.

Anyway, you can look for VVVVVV to arrive on the Nintendo Switch starting November 17th next month, in case you didn’t already have a copy of the game on all the other systems it’s currently available for.
