Yomawari: Midnight Shadows Trailer Highlights Map Size And Inventory Options

NIS America released a new trailer for Yomawari: Midnight Shadows, the exploration horror game set to arrive on PS4, PlayStation Vita and Steam on October 24th in North America and October 27th in Europe.

The new trailer focuses on the game’s various environments and how players will don the roles of the two main protagonists Yui and Haru in their attempt to find one another and get back home in one piece. You can check out the trailer below.

The trailer reveals the fairly large map that players will be able to explore in the game world. Each section of the map is broken down into key landmarks. And in typical childlike fashion, the map is scribbled out as if two kids used crayons in their amateur cartography endeavors.

While a lot of the footage is the same from previous trailers, there are a few new elements present, such as the inventory screen and how item acquisition works. We see that in order to progress through one area you have to acquire a handle, so you go out in search of the handle and after acquiring it you’ll see it added to your list of items in your inventory.

There are only a set number of keys to acquire, 17 in total, so they give you hints an ideas as to how far into the game you are.

The end of the trailer rounds out with some of the horrors you’ll experience along the way, including a boss fight including a large skeletal specter. You can also use your flashlight to uncover some of the ghastly spirits roaming around the city, creating some obvious tension where you’re going to have to exercise caution as to where you travel and how you plan to explore certain areas.

It’s not often when get horror-survival games designed in a 16-bit isometric style, but it’s a welcomed change from the typical first-person horror games we’ve been receiving over the last half decade.

Pre-orders are currently available, but it would probably be wise to wait for reviews before diving into a purchase of Yomawari: Midnight Shadows.
