Apple’s vice president of diversity and inclusion, Denise Young Smith, is stepping down from her job at the company just a month after making some comments that some Social Justice Warriors deemed controversial. She was brought in back in May of 2017, but was recently put under a fiery spotlight after she defended white men during a conference.
“I focus on everyone. … Diversity is the human experience. I get a little bit frustrated when diversity or the term ‘diversity’ is tagged to the people of color, or the women, or the LGBT.
“There can be 12 white, blue-eyed, blonde men in a room and they’re going to be diverse too because they’re going to bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation.”
Social Justice Warriors were enraged at Smith’s defense of white men. They excoriated the inclusion and diversity VP for not excluding a certain race and gender from the speech.
Sites like Black Enterprise collected a number of tweets from individuals outraged at Smith’s comments.
Black people would be better off if #DeniseYoungSmith was among the unemployed.

Social Justice website, The Root, accused Smith of “whitesplaining” to minorities. The author, Michael Harriot, wrote…
“That’s how whitesplaining works. If you can bamboozle someone into believing 12 white men can be diverse, you don’t actually have to hire people of color or people with different sexual orientations. If literally anything can be diverse, then there is no such thing as diversity.”
In the minds of some Social Justice Warriors, diversity only applies for the minority out-group.
One certainly has to question if that means they think whites are still a minority in a place like Africa and if their viewpoints in regard to anything happening within the region would be considered “diverse”?
Nevertheless, Denise was forced to apologize, with TechCrunch posting the full apology, which reads…
“I regret the choice of words I used to make this point. I understand why some people took offense. My comments were not representative of how I think about diversity or how Apple sees it. For that, I’m sorry.
“More importantly, I want to assure you Apple’s view and our dedication to diversity has not changed.
“Understanding that diversity includes women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and all underrepresented minorities is at the heart of our work to create an environment that is inclusive of everyone. “
On Twitter the conversation obviously turned into a race-baiting kettle pot of cacophony. However, amid the rabble-rousing and raucous noise shouted into the digital ether at 140 characters per post, a few people did attempt to defend Smith.

Most surprising, however, is that Apple’s replacement for Denise Young Smith for the VP of inclusion and diversity is a white woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. According to Macitynet.it, Christie Smith, a human resource executive from Deloitte, will be replacing Denise Young Smith.
There’s strong irony in the fact that Denise Young Smith saying that those with blonde hair and blue eyes can offer diverse perspectives, and despite losing her job over that comment, she was replaced by someone who will head up the diversity and inclusion sector at Apple who has… blonde hair and blue eyes.
As reported by Fortune, Denise Young Smith still has a happy ending. She will be leaving Apple before 2017 concludes, and she already has an executive position lined up at Cornell Tech starting January, 2018.
