Bossa Studios Cancel Decksplash Development After Failing To Get 100,000 Players

Bossa Studios held a free week invitational for gamers to check out their skateboarding game, Decksplash. It’s a 3D throwback to titles like Tony Hawk Pro Skater… except, there’s no rider on the skateboard, just the skateboard. Well, there was a stipulation for the free week: either they hit 100,000 players or they cancel the game. They didn’t hit 100,000 players so they’re canceling the game.

Blues noticed the update over on the official Bossa Studios website, where the developers informed the community that since the game failed in its goal to lure in 100,000 players, development was ceasing on Decksplash

“Decksplash unfortunately didn’t hit it’s target and production on the game will now stop.

“We always knew that 100k was a big target, but it was the only way to make sure the game was a viable product for both yourselves and us in the long term, now we’ve gotten our answer.

“We want to thank everyone who supported us during the Free Week and let you all know that while this is the end of our story, we’re glad we got to share it with you.”

The team will supposedly move on to work on “better” games while Decksplash will be laid to rest in vaporville.

The gimmick to lure in 100,000 gamers almost worked. According to Steam Spy the free weekend managed to accrue 57,700 players according to Steam Spy, which isn’t too bad for a game that no one heard of.

It seemed like a fairly ridiculous venture anyway, hoping to get 100,000 people to play a game otherwise development would cease.

One of the biggest drawbacks is that the game relied on just pulling off ridiculous tricks as a deck without a rider. You can check out the trailer below.

Maybe they’ll return to Decksplash later on and actually add a playable character and not just the decks.

Anyway, the game bit the dust before it ever really made it to the buffet.
