Activision and Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WW2 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One has a no-holds-barred campaign mode that is action-packed and patriotic. For gamers who have no plans on touching the campaign mode or don’t care to purchase the first-person shooter but are interested in the story, this article here will give a very brief overview of the story and Call of Duty: WW2 campaign ending.

The game starts with Ronald “Red” Daniels and his friends Stiles, Aiello and Zussman on one of the boats making their way to the beach of Normandy on D-Day in World War II. After a harrowing experience during the storming of the beach, Daniels and his friends become acclimated to the antipodes leading styles of Sgt. Pierson and First Lt. Joseph Turner. Turner is more compassionate and caring for his men and civilians, where-as Pierson doesn’t care about anything other than completing the mission.

Throughout the game — and as they campaign across France, where they help the French resistance, and eventually move into Germany — the rift between Turner and Pierson becomes strained. Daniels feels the added pressure of the war when he finds out that his girlfriend back home is pregnant with their child. This strain carries over into the mission when Turner and the rest of the squad take a German hotel and they discover civilians inside. Turner and Pierson argue about rescuing the civilians. Turner ends up winning the argument, and they attempt to help get the civilians out of the hotel but not all of the civilians make it out alive, and the mission gets jeopardized in the process.

Turner and Pierson are reprimanded for Turner’s decision to save the civilians instead of completing the mission, causing the two to butt heads even further.

During a suicide mission to take out AA guns on a German mountainside, Pierson moves forward with a mission while his squad is stretched thin, forcing Turner to make an emergency push to reinforce Pierson during the assault. A majority of the squad is wiped out, with Turner dying in the process.

Pierson takes command of the First, and rules the men with an iron, unforgiving fist.

The reason for being such a hard-nosed leader is because during a mission in Kasserine when Pierson was in charge of his own squad, he was ordered to fall back and leave a large portion of his men behind. Instead, Pierson stayed and decided to help his men, which resulted in even more of his men dying. Pierson was demoted for his efforts and had a tarnished rep among the men ever since.

As the campaign stretches on into the unforgiving cold of a German winter, Pierson becomes more and more unhinged. This eventually leads to a mission where the group is ordered to take over a Nazi base and rout a convoy of trucks. During the assault, however, Zussman is captured and Daniels is wounded when he disobeys Pierson’s orders and attempts to rescue Zussman.

Pierson attempts to kill Daniels after he finds him battered and wounded after the failed rescue attempt, but he’s interrupted by the other squad mates coming to Daniels’ aid. In response, Pierson kicks Daniels off the team and threatens him with a court martial.

Instead of being dishonorably discharged, General Davis meets with Daniels while he’s recuperating and gives him his papers for an honorable discharge and a recommendation for a bronze medal.

Daniels has a brief flashback where he envisions himself going home and living out his life with his girl Hazel and his brother, Paul. However, Daniels scratches that thought and remembers bond with Zussman, knowing that he can’t leave him behind.

Meanwhile, Zussman hides his identity as a Jew to avoid summary execution and is transported to a Nazi labor camp.

During this time Daniels decides to make peace with Pierson, learns the truth about Kasserine, and requests to complete the mission so that they can find and rescue Zussman. Pierson reluctantly obliges.

Stiles, Aiello, Pierson, Daniels and the rest of the squad manage to secure the Rhine, complete their mission and make their way further into Germany in order to find Zussman.

They eventually come across one last and final prison camp, discovering the remnants of prisoners being executed in a field before the Nazis can be captured. Daniels follows the gunshots and has a flashback, revealing that when he was a child and his brother Paul was attacked by a wolf, he hesitated to pull the trigger and kill the wolf, resulting in his brother dying from his wounds. This lasting image haunted Daniels all the way into adulthood where the moment of retribution for his honor came full circle.

Daniels finds the last few prisoners being shot by the Nazi commander and before the commander can kill Zussman, Daniels shoots and kills the Nazi.

Weeks later Stiles and Aiello head home as heroes. Zussman is kept in a hospital to recover, Pierson re-enlists, and Daniels finally goes home to his girl, Hazel, and his newborn child. Cue the Call of Duty: WW2 campaign credits.
