Nintendo Switch, SNES Classic Edition Outsell Xbox One, PS4 In October NPD Charts

It’s starting to get embarrassing now. Nintendo is taking off the belt and whipping the flesh off the bare bottoms of Microsoft and Sony in the hardware sales department each month in and each month out with the Nintendo Switch and now the SNES Classic Edition. Both systems topped the charts as the number one and number two best-selling console hardware for October, 2017.

According to VentureBeat, Nintendo rolled out a press release indicating that two-thirds of all hardware sales in the month of October belonged to Nintendo devices…

“When combined with the NIntendo 3DS family of systems, Nintendo systems accounted for two-thirds of all video game hardware sold in the United States for the second month in a row,”

At this point Nintendo is just raping Sony and Microsoft raw.

The month of October saw hardware sales top 1 million SKUs sold across the board. As noted by VentureBeat, this means Nintendo sold at least a combined 666,000 units across the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS and SNES Classic Edition.

Interestingly enough, on the software side for the month of October, Destiny 2 saw a major drop-off in interest, falling down the charts like Britney Spears’ career. The game is now in ninth place, as noted by IGN.

  1. Middle Earth: Shadow of War
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Origins
  3. Super Mario Odyssey
  4. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
  5. NBA 2K18
  6. FIFA 18
  7. WWE 2K18
  8. Madden NFL 18
  9. Destiny 2
  10. Forza Motorsport 7

For only getting in four days worth of measured sales, Super Mario Odyssey managed to cinch the number three spot on the chart, which is impressive, especially for a single-platform title.

Many suspect that Super Mario Odyssey could top the charts for November, but it’ll be facing off against stiff competition from Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars: Battlefront II. The charts will definitely be interesting to see when they become available next month.
