Onrush Is A Mix Of Motorstorm And Trackmania

Koch media and Codemasters recently unveiled the high-octane, bump-and-shunt racer Onrush at this year’s Paris Games Week. The title can best be described as a mix of Motorstorm meets Trackmania.

Players will dive into the role of a driver in command of 4x4s and off-road motorcycles as they race, ram, jump, and jive across a mixture of challenging and distinct environments. We don’t have a whole lot of info about the game but the trailer reveals some of the tracks that players will encounter, as well as the kind of combat-racing they expect to endure throughout the race. You can check out the Paris Games Week trailer below, featuring a whole minute of ragtag racing action.

The trailer highlights the two different types of racing vehicles that you’ll have at your disposal in Onrush, including the 4×4 dune buggies and the two-wheeled off-road motorcycles. In this way, it’s not too dissimilar from Techland’s over-the-top racing game Nail’d that game out way back in 2010.

The racing itself seems to share more in common with Targem and Codemaster’s Insane, which was sort of like a revival of Big Red Racing. Nail’d was more about racing across crazy environments, but Insane was more about clobbering your opponents with hits, crashes and shunts in order to reach the finish line in first place. There’s definitely a sense of grittiness to the combat in Onrush, though, making it feel a lot closer to Sony’s Motorstorm series in some ways.

You can definitely see where Codemasters have taken some of the elements from their older racing games and infused them into Onrush. The track designs seem to have some influence from Trackmania, which is pretty cool.

You’ll have to wait a while to get your hands on Onrush, though. The game isn’t due for release until the summer of 2018 for Xbox One and PS4.

It’s weird but there’s no logo for Steam at the end of the trailer, so maybe (hopefully) the PC release will come at a later date.
